I am looking to buy a color scanner and printer to print and scan photos. What is a good brand, and what info am I looking for? I see some show what the resolution is? what should that be?

I have a HP Deskjet F4135. It is a Scanner, copier,and a printer. I like it and it has not failed yet.What is the best color printer and scanner to buy?
Everyone I know avoids lexmark.
The higher the resolution the better/clearer especially the photos. Most have their own favourite to buy. I like Epson but would be happy with an HP. Bear in mind where it is to go and the size for where it has to fit. Top loader or tray and cost of cartridges should be borne in mind.
