That printer doesnt have lights/buttons on it to indicate errors such as 'ink out'. Status Monitor is required to advise of this. W/out this utility the printer is almost useless. Installing the winxp driver in Vista may allow printing-but Status Monitor cannot operate. Report Abuse

I don't think that there is one, presently. I don't see one offered on the Espon site. You may have to check on the Microsoft Vista site for one.
A printer driver isn't available for the Color 480SXU (or 580SXU). A Microsoft Inbox driver is not available either. If you are running Vista 32-bit, you could install the 2000/XP driver (no luck with Vista x64).


This is not recommended by Epson, but it may function. Note that the utility (STM3) will not function in the Vista environment so you will not have ink level monitoring or be able to change the ink cartridge whilst connected to the Vista machine - you would have to connect it to a PC that has driver and utility support. I love Epson printers, but these two printers having no buttons is not good! Thankfully they were the only two like that.





You require Status Monitor (utility) to change the carts, so bear this in mind. If the installer does not function properly, you could run it in the Winodws 2000/XP compatibility mode.





Personally, in the case of this printer, I'd recommend you contact Epson for an upgrade. If you're in the UK they've got some good offers with full Vista driver support for the models they can offer.

It does not seem Epson has release a Vista driver for your model yet. There is no information when there will be a driver. You might want to bookmark the link and check it once in a while.
