Why does my printer use so much color ink?

I have a Canon MP140 multi-function printer. I very rarely do any color printing at all. Almost always I do draft quality B%26amp;W printing on A4 plain paper. In printer properties I set for grey-scale fast printing, yet I use up color ink far faster than black. Am I using the wrong settings or something?Why does my printer use so much color ink?
See if has a function to print using the black cartridge only as grey-scales uses colour ink as well.





Try preferences then maintenance and see if there is a function to change to black only.





If there is there usually is a icon of a cartridge by the side.

Unfortunately most printers use some of the color ink to augment the black ink...even in gray-scale. Did you look in the print preference to see if they have ';draft';?...In some printers fast print is not draft quality, it just prints faster. Plane paper is more absorbent than hi-gloss and some printers ';feel'; the paper for its absorbency and sets the printer to the correct quality for that paper.
Because there is less of each color than black and when you use up one color the cartridge thinks it's empty.
That's how they make money. Get a CISS for your printer. It will save you TONS of MONEY, never change a cartridge again and it will pay for itself in a month.
