i have changed the color cartridge 4 times, I have a HP Officejet V40xi and the only colors that are printing are red and black (black is a separate ink cartridge) I have tested it several times. how do i fix thisWhy is my color printer only printing red and black?
Hi,
I found the info below on:
http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/25296
Clean the cartridge and carriage electrical contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol.
Blot the cartridge nozzles on a damp paper towel. You should see yellow, magenta, and cyan. If not, the problem is the cartridge(s).
Some people have gotten the ink flowing by soaking the nozzle area in near boiling water or by using a vacuum cleaner.

From what you wrote, it sounds like it's probably the electrical contacts in the printer and not the cartridge that is ';gummed up';.
The same webpage above listed the following site as an official HP Printer manual for your printer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?dlc=en%26amp;lc=en%26amp;product=60630%26amp;lang=en%26amp;cc=us
HOWEVER, I would suggest going HERE first:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpa00224%26amp;lc=en%26amp;cc=us%26amp;lang=en%26amp;rule=9969%26amp;product=60630%26amp;dlc=en
Why? This webpage is titled ';HP Inkjet Cartridges and Media - Missing Color, Wrong Color, or Streaks in the Printout';. There's a lot of detailed info on this page that should help. Good luck!
