Does the printer only use color catridges to print color?

I have a lexmark with 4 color cartridges and no more black. I want to print colored pictures. Does the printer use the black cartridge also when printing colored pics, or can I do it just using the colored?Does the printer only use color catridges to print color?
It does use the black, but not too much, you should be fine with just color for nowDoes the printer only use color catridges to print color?
Yes, the printer requires all ink to achieve proper tones.
printers now use all 4 colors to print everything. Black is used in color prints. old printer from late 90's use 1 cartridge for everything. but now every printer uses all the colors in color prints.
Everything Young said, but I advise against doing the combine thing, since you are basically going to use all three of the remaining cartridges at a VERY accelerated rate to just make black.

I highly recommend you scope out www.froogle.com and punch in your printer model and add ink to the end....so if you had an HP 1675v you would enter:

';HP 1675v ink';

You can spot some amazing ink deals online.

Good luck!
Why not try to print first, and see what will happen.
Yes, printer use black color in color also.

And it will not print if one cartridges is missing or empty
Yes you will be able to use the printer but it will replace the black with either green or red .
it's cmyk (the 4 cartridges: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and K for black.).............Yes it does use black when printing colored pictures.

damn a thumbs down? i wrote all that sh*t for nothing
