What's the best color printer?

I need a color printer that delivers excellent documents and photographs of different sizes. I prefer a machine that does not require a change of cartridges every 15 minutes (as my Brothers printer does) and can continue to print if I'm out of a particular toner. What's the best color printer?
It really depends upon what your primary usage is. For lots of documents on a daily basis, laser printers are better and more cost-efficient than color inkjets - but they are more expensive up front. The best photo printers are a completely different story, many of those produce gallery-quality prints but are mediocre at printing text. Once you know which technology you're going with, you can start breaking down which models are best.

Update: Well, you obviously want a printer with individual color ink tanks, so you don't have to buy a new generic ';color'; cartridge just because you're out of blue. But be careful- you should never print if you're out of a color that your current print job actually needs, that just damages the print heads. But yes, if you're printing a black %26amp; white document it shouldn't matter if the yellow tank is empty.

Canon and Epson both make excellent photo printers. HP makes fantastic general-purpose printers but historically has lagged behind the other two in photo quality. That may no longer be the case, since HP has recently taken top awards with their newer photo printers.

The Canon Pixma MP960 looks like a fantastic all-in-one, a bit pricey though:

What ever you get, make sure its HP and not

a sheet feed.

Oh, and don't try copying paper money.

HP senses it and you can guess the rest.

(they don't know you only did it for fun!!)
I just bought a Lexmark x7350 all in one printer. I have been very pleased with the output and just printed some pics over the weekend. They are very good quality for the price of this machine. I bought mine new on ebay for $75 but have seen them in stores for as low as $119.

here is the link with the specs....
