How to scan in color on laser printer/scanner/copier?

I have a laser printer: Sharp AR-M455N. I was wondering if there is a way to scan a picture in color? My pictures usually come out in black and white. Does anyone know how I can get it in color? Your owners manual should explain how to do this. I know that my printer/scanner manual explains how to scan an item in color or black and white. You can always go to a Staples or some other place that offers printing services and pay them to scan it for you as well.





If you have lost the manual perhaps you can go the the Sharp website and download the manual (or maybe it is included on the software too)
I believe that your equipment is a monochrome laser, Black printer.





However, if you are able to see the image in color, you can save the image to a folder on your desktop, and from there, on a memory stick to the photo shop for color printing.

Color Printer! How can my Yahoo! Messenger's Coversation be displayed in MS-Word in the same Color as it is?

When I copy my Yahoo! Messenger's chat/conversation or text and paste it into MS-Word's Document, it is displayed in Black Color. :( I have not got any Printer (attached to my computer). When you copy the conversation, it only copies the text, not the style applied to it. Unfortunately there is no way to copy the color/formatting in a yahoo conversation.

I'm in the market for a new printer. But I don't want to end up with a cheap $50 printer that costs a million dollars to print stuff. I'm looking for a printer whose ink doesn't cost that much. It doesn't mean i don't want ink that cost $100. If that cartridge only costs 3-6c a page that's still good. So basically I'm trying to find a printer that costs under $500. If you dont need high quality photos get a color laser. I bought a Samsung CLP300 for $80 after $150 rebate. In a year I had to replace the black toner ($70 a set of 4 at http://ccs-digital.com) which prints 2000 pages. I also have a Ricoh CL1000N which I bought for $300. It's a bigger, faster, (noisier) color laser. I had to replace the black toner ($50 on ebay) but it prints about 10,000 pages. Both do an okay job on photos but not as good an an inkjet.





If you must have high quality photos, you need an inkjet. Since you're willing to spend $500, I would suggest you get one of the laser for the big text jobs and the inkjet for photos. Look at the Epson NX series or Workforce series. You get a one-year express replacement warranty, which means if anything goes wrong, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one. I get ink for my Epsons at http://ccs-digital.com for under $3 a cartridge and their cartridges hold 66% more ink than standard ones.Looking for a color printer that is economical. The new Kodak printer Rocks. I have had mine for a year now and the ink is only $9.95 for black and $14.95 for color which is also used for pictures. You cannot beat the price of the printer around $90.00 and the newer models are better than the original like I have.
I would advise you not to buy an ink jet kind of printer because it will stop functioning if you will not use it for a long period of time.


Instead buy a laser (or LED as well) colour/mono printer (ex: Minolta C10P).


On the other hand if you need to print allot and need a cheaper solution try buying an Epson ink jet printer (Stylus Photo 1400 -A3, Stylus Photo R285) and instead of using the genuine Epson ink use a so called CISS - Continuous Ink Supply System that has some manually refillable cartridges.


Also buy ink from the same place that you brought the CISS from as it will be allot cheaper (10x cheaper)


CISS systems are also available for some Cannon printers to.





But be aware that in the moment you install one of those CISS systems into your brand new printer automatically you'll loose the warranty for that printer PERIOD.





I would advise using Cannon printers for a CISS since Epson printers come with a counter of some sort that will make you printer stop functioning unless you take it to a printer service for a software reset (you need to pay for this about 15$).

Depending on what are you printing could be silkscreen ( 1 or 3 colors non more than 100 lpp), Laser in case of pictures will give you nice resolution. If you need more than 1000 sheets you can try a offset printing at 133 lpp. But if you need laser anyway, go to a print shop they can do it for you.

You can try deleting the printer and reinstalling it again using the original printer cd.


You can try downloading Uniblue driver scanner 2009 install it and run it this will check all your drivers and tell you any which need updating it will also let you download and install them

Unfortunately it is not designed to work with a missing cartridge. If you are looking to cut your costs, why not get a remanufactured cartridge rather than a Lexmark original? This should save you a few bucks....

I have been refilling ink cartridges for over 10 years and I don't think that would be a good idea for several reasons, you won't get a true black, you will contaminate your cartridge, and you will need to buy a new cartridge. If it were me I would refill it or have it done. If you do not know how to do it yourself I don't recomend it you will have ink everywere and it won't come out.
Some printers will run with only one cartridge in. If that one cartridge is the color one, your printer will fire the colors one on top of the other to make black. It's a compilation black, not as dark as straight black, but it might do.





Since you did not include your printer model, you can see if your printer will function with only one cartridge by physically removing the black cartridge. As long as you don't get an error message or a flashing light, you're good to go. Some printers I can think of off the top of my head that take two cartridges, but will work with one: almost any Lexmark, HP 842C,5550,5940,6500,6900 series.





Compilation black uses your color ink up in a hurry, I would only recommend it for a quick substitute, and then replace your black cartridge ASAP.
What will most likely happen is the black in whatever you are printing will come out a purple-ish or maroon. Its probably just better to go get a new black cartridge.
The closest would be gray, but it will not really work.

Ink is used as a lubricant for the heads. Printing with a color missing will damage your printer. Also, if a color is missing, there is no ink flowing to that head. The little bit left will coagulate and you will end up with a clogged print head. Unless you want to kiss your printer good bye, I suggest you use it as it was intended.
I don't know about the color profiles, but you probably can't just switch the cartridges, because they're usually different sizes. Also, most printers won't print without both cartridges installed.

there are not greener options for most printer unfortunately, what you can do is find out where you can recycle the cartridge. Many food banks, local schools as well as office supply stores will take back empties and recycle them.

That is a very nice printer. If I were you, I'd set it up on the network. Give it an ip address via the front panel (ip address, mask, and gateway are required) and hook it up to the network. Then you can print to it from any computer. When you set up the printer on your computer, choose local port and add a ';standard tcpip port'; and put in the IP address of the printer. You need to put in an address that is about 30 numbers or so above your computer's ip address. If this is a home network that would apply, for an office network, check with the system admin for your ip address.

I've had an HP LaserJet 4000 for about 5-6 years, all with the same toner cartridge. Admittedly it's not colour, but it still works fine, no clogging at all.

I don't think you should worry about that, for the past 20 years of printer repair I have never seen the ink dry up in a laser printer yet, the only tip I can give you is print a bit lighter to save money and when buying a laser especially a color laser always buy Canon, I used a Canon the whole time I had my repair shop, now at home I still use the same 22 year old Canon laser and ink printers, hope this helps you and good luck.
Laser printers do not dry out.
You don't need to worry about it with a laser printer. Laser printers use toner, a dry, powdery ink. If it isn't in a very humid environment, you needn't think of it at all. If the air is overly humid, it might clump up a bit, but generally you're pretty darn safe with toner, as far as a ';shelf life'; goes.
i was worried about this too but at office max they give u a 3-5$ refund for each ink cartridge that u return... (they fill them up again) then u can use that coupon for anything... it saves a lot...

If your printer is printing in black instead of colour check that you have not set it to print either greyscales or to use the black cartridge only.





Go into prefrences on the printer's menu and then maintance. See if there is a setting for the ink cartridge in there. If there is, unclick it if it says black ink only or greyscales. Other than that I have no idea unless you need to run a cleaning cycle as your printer heads could be blocked and so the colour ink can't come out. Your maintaince menu should have settings to do the cleaning cycle and your manual should explain it better. I have an HP printer but mine is not set up as I have my Canon one installed so I can't be more specifice as I need to go in to the menu to find the right links for you to press.

I was given a HP 2820 (all-in-one) but they said I鈥檒l need a new fuse. It pretty much controls the printing process. Not sure how or why (printers are one big question mark to me) but I do know that it is the only part that isn鈥檛 working. The fuser unit is a drum that gets very hot and ';melts'; the toner onto the paper. If the fuser is bad and not heating, your images will ';smear'; when you rub your hand across them. The other possibility is that you used something that wasn't approved for a laser printer (like photo paper designed for an inkjet, labels that weren't designed for laser etc... and something melted onto the surface of the fuser. In that case it make leave streaks, or blotches on the paper.


On most newer HP laserjets, fuser replacement is easy. Just open the back of the printer, like there was a paper jam... Then there are usually 2 levers you flip, and pull the fuser out. slide the replacement in and you are done. (HP has online guides... go to their site and look up your printer model.)





You usually have to return your old fuser to be ';refurbished';. I've never had problems buying refurbished fusers directly from HP, or from partsexpress.com either... The final price is usually half what a ';new'; one is, and they truely are refurbished, not just ';inspected';... New heating elements, new surface cover etc...

I'm assuming here that you know that you are not going to find any color LASER multifunction devices that will do 21 pages per minute in color in the ';inexpensive'; range ($300-$400) range.





For fast laser-quality (or better) printers, consider the xerox 8560MFP/N multifunction solid ink printer, it's rated at 30 Page per minute in color. It'll cost you around $1200.





Xerox's solid ink printers are actually very nice units. I have a customer with 3 of them and they were so happy with the 2 printers, they got a multi-function device for another department and have not had any problems with any of the 3.

I have a Samsung CLP 300 Color printer and from experience, the Samsung CLP 300 does the job well. I have it for 5 months now and I use it mainly to print shipping labels and packing slips (about 20 pages per week). According to the log, there is still 75-79 % of the original toner remaining hence it's economical. The printer never jammed perhaps I go out of my way to buy a quality paper no lower than 20 lb, I mainly use 24 lb paper. As for color printing, it prints close to color on the screen when printed on regular paper. Prints on photo paper is not bad but of course the printer is not meant for photo printing. I have not bought toner cartridge replacement yet but it costs around $100 or more for the 4-pack black and color set.

When you have an inkjet printer set to print in color, most of them will use all of the colors to print black areas. This uses the color ink faster than needed. One trick you can use with a color inkjet and black and white laser is to divide the printing on a project up between the printers. Here are the steps to print business cards using Microsoft Front Page or Print Master.


Steps





1. Save the project first


2. Take all of the color graphics out and print the remaining black and white on the black and white laser printer.


3. Close without saving and open the project again.


4. When the project is open, delete all of the black and white and print the color portion on the color inkjet printer. You can do the same method in your word processor by selecting all of the text and changing the color to white (don鈥檛 forget to save your document before you do this).


5. Print out the color portion of the document


6. Close the document


7. Open the document again


8. Delete the color portions


9. Print the black portion on the laser printer


10. Save each edit of the project to its own file marked color or black if you need to print this again in the future.

* The other advantage to this method besides price is that the laser printers usually do a much better job on printing the black portions, especially lettering.

* In most cases you do not save money with aftermarket or refurbished cartridges for inkjet and laser printers. You may pay less upfront, but these replacement cartridges don鈥檛 last as long. The cost per page will go up or they may leak requiring you to repair your printer.

HP 2550L it is a higher volume laser printer, meaning the cartridge print a number of pages and provide excellent value if you are doing a high volume of printing.





It is a desktop printer with a massive footprint. It is network capable with the use or a print server. It is just a really tough high volume laser printer at a very reasonable price.





As a side note if you do decide to go HP (which I would recommend) avoid printers that require cartridge number 6000 6001. 6002, 6003 . The actual cost per page on those bad boys is just about on par with Ink-Jet printing.





You can expect to pay anywhere from about $75 - $300 per cartridge for a laser printer (they take 4) however you page yields are easily 10-20 times that of an ink jet printer. You best bet is to price out the cost of replacements cartridges prior to purchasing the unit. Every printer will have the cartridge numbers printing on the side of the box. Just wonder around staples and work out the cost per page by dividing the the cartridge price by page yield.





If you are not intending to do a high volume of colour laser printing go with a monochrome laser printer and have letterhead made, or do all your specialty print jobs on ink jet. A monochrome laser printer will run you around $100 the cartridges will be cheaper and there are no image transfer kits to worry about. If you're doing a lot of colour printing, I would recmmend HP laserjet 1600 or 2600. They are using cart Q6000A, Q6001A, Q6002A, Q6003A.





The printer may be slightly pricey. But it is cheap when compared to other laserjets. On top of that, when the one of the color cartridge run out of toner, you will only need to change the particular one instead of the whole tri-cartridge. A tri-color cartridge for ink jets can't be used once one of the colors run out. The price when compared to ink printers, each cartridge is expensive. But on the long run and quality wise, you can print a lot more and better pics:) The page yield for each cartridge is almost 100 times of a ink cartridge:)





For cheaper solutions to expensive cartridges, you can always look for your local shop selling remanufactured toner cartridges. The quality for remanufactured toner cartridges for small toner cartridges should have much difference.

Plane paper is more absorbent than hi-gloss and some printers ';feel'; the paper for its absorbency and sets the printer to the correct quality for that paper.
Because there is less of each color than black and when you use up one color the cartridge thinks it's empty.
That's how they make money. Get a CISS for your printer. It will save you TONS of MONEY, never change a cartridge again and it will pay for itself in a month.

My rather old printer (an HP Officejet G55) has stopped working.


When I try to print, a message comes up on the display, saying I must remove and check the color cartridge. Another message says the wrong color cartridge has been installed.


But the colour cartridge is the right one - an M78. I have used the printer for a long time with the same cartridge in it, and have had no problems.


The only thing I can think of is that the color cartridge is causing a malfunction because I only ever print in black and white.


But I am not a technical person. I could buy a new color cartridge, to see if that works, but they are expensive. Cartridges ';expire';. There is a chip on each cartridge. The chip has good until dates. This is a little scheme cooked up by the printers to stop you from using home refill kits and never buying a new cartridge. I find it evil of the printer makers... but hey, they are trying to make a buck.





If your system is clean, a new cartridge should work.

On the colour cartridge above the electronic strip there should be an expiration date. Over Time the electronics do break down and become less functional. In the case you may get an incorrect cartridge or check cartridge warning. You should try a replacement cartridge before scrapping the printer. Those are the highest capacity cartridge every put on the market and they are certainly a phenomenal value compared to cartridges today.





Your best bet is to try another 78 from a place with a great return policy. This is just in case the secondary cartridge fails you will be able to get your money back. Re manufactured and compatible cartridges are widely available fro that printer and it may be the way to go if you are concerned about cost.





Almost every time you get a check cartridge warning it is because the cartridge is incorrect or the electronics have degraded. In your case it appears to be the latter.





it is a great printer, and worth hanging onto if you can.
Either the printer can no longer recongize the cartridge because something happened to the circuit, or the cartridge for some reason is faulty. First check the cartridge to make sure that the copper ribbion is intact and clean. Reinsert the cartridge and try printing. If that doesn't work, replace the cartridge with a new one and see if that helps. If the same problem persists, then you either get the printer repaired, or simply buy a new printer, if the repair cost is too much.

I remember the old Xerox machines - copiers and there was a wire in there that had to be replaced or cleaned every so often or would get spots on the paper. Right now I have a copier here that does the same when copying and puts spots on the paper but when it prints from the computer, it does not put the spots on the paper. The glass appears to be clean, but might have to take it out and clean it.





I don't have the technical skills to do muc more than that. But wonder if my spots and our spots could be caused by something that needs to be replaced or cleaned. I haven't seen any put color spots though, only black ones.

If you happen to own a EPSON printer you cannot print in black if you have run out of any colored ink (it doesn't happen with some other brands, as to my knowledge).
It doesn't have to ';have'; color ink, however you do need both a black and a colour cartridges installed in order for any newer model printer to work. Just leave an empty color cartridge in and set your printer setting to Grey scale or black only.





You may also want to go through the motions of installing the empty color cartridge as you would a new one. IE. Tell the printer you have installed a new cartridge. This will prevent any error or warning messages from popping up.

This sounds like the same printer my parents have. Because DELL doesn't manufacture anything, it is not actualla a ';Dell';. It is probably a Lexmark and if it has seperate blk and color ink cartidges it should print in either if one cartridge is empty. However my parents Dell printer went bad and would not print until ';both'; cartidges were not empty. Dell replaced that printer free of charge because they had only had it a couple of weeks.

What studies have concluded is that some laser printers emit carbons that decrease air quality. The air quality decrease would be less than walking by a running car.

I would not even be concerned at 50 pages per day. If you live in a city, you are exposed to more hazardous things on a daily basis than a laser printer.

if it's just for you, why not? I don't bother to frame art, I think framing art can be lame and pretentious.


Only problem is that the ink of a lot of inkjet printers fades fairly quickly. Particularly if your room is bright. You may want to spray them with a coat of UV-protectant.


What's even less lame is make your own drawings. I particularly like brown packing paper - it's cheap and you can work on both highlights and shadows with chalk and charcoal respectively.

Just leave the color in the printer. Go to your preferences, and select ';Print in back only';. That's it. If this is not the issue, run a test page, perform 3-4 printhead cleanings, run another test page. You should see a difference in the test page. Your color cartridges may dry up. A cleaning cycle usually fixes mine. Some cheap printers only had a color cart. and it would make black by combining all colors. Then you'd want to just put in the black cart.





A laser printer is best for black and white only docs. If you'll be doing higher volume and printing every day, that's the way to go. Much lower cost per page. But it does take a bit to warm up if you don't print frequently, and the toner (ink) is more expensive, but it lasts much longer.





I had a Deskjet 820 which is hard to find the color cart for anymore. So I left an empty one in there. The 45 black is still common though, so I print only b%26amp;w from that now. Newer printers will refuse to print if they think any cart is empty though. Lawsuits have been filed because of this, but they're still making them this way.

I have only printed grayscale for about 6 months and wanted color yesterday. I was wondering if the nozzles can dry and clog.My canon i550 printer wont print color. Anybody have the same problem and know how to fix it?
Use alcohol and clean the tip of the cartrdige. Don't forget that inkjet can dry out even if you do not use it.. I had the same problem with mine. Replace the color cartridge or better still, bring it to Staples and ask a clerk to check it on one of their Canons. If the dude is nice enough, he will check it but I am sure it dried up or, it is defective.

for a good all around color printer with cheap ink, in the long run a color laser should do the trick. you will pay a lot more in the beginning, but i did the math and page for page, laser is actually cheaper.





you can get the hp color laserjet 1600 for around $250. it usually comes with full cartridges to start, so that will get you off and running. the carts themselves run about $75-$85 each, but if you don't use it that often they will last you forever, as they do print approx 2,000 - 2500 pages. and unlike the inkjets, they won't dry out from non-use.

You've just run into the problem of refilled cartridges. (see http://ccs-digital.com/refills.asp) The black ink left over in the cartridge formed clots. You added new ink and now the clots traveled to the heads and clogged them. You can try dropping rubbing alcohol where the ink enters the printer and hope it unblocks the heads.


If you want to save money, buy brand new (not remanufactured or refilled) compatible cartridges. They can usually be found for under $3.

Why is there a SLIGHT RED LINE across bottom of page on my Color Laser Printer (dell 3000cn)?

I have a dell 3000cn color laser printer and noticed that when i print color pictures that span the size of the entire page then at the bottom (regardless if its printed landscape or portrait) a slight redish line appears at this lower region of the page (in the printing area)...It doesn't look like its printing more red in this area but looks like some kind of burn-in or something that appears slight red. Not sure what it is....Any ideas what it is and what i can do to resolve this.....

Hate to confuse you more, but a line in SAME PLACE each page is NOT a leaking toner (as said above) but NOR is it a failing drum, that would give lines down the page at regular intervals of around 3'; to 5';





If it's 1 line per page it relates to the only compnent in the printer that is page sized, the ';Image transfer belt unit';

This sounds like the cartridge is leaking.
Consistent lines, blotches or dots on your printouts usually indicate a failing imaging drum. These are the green or copper colored tubes you see inside the printer.





This IS NOT a leaking toner cartridge. If it was, you would have toner (powdered ink) all over your printouts and hands.

The problem is the inkjet printer. Any time you hit the image with a liquid the ink becomes liquid again and will run. You need LASER color copies. Save the item you want to decoupage on a cd or a usb drive and take it to your local copy shop. Make sure you ask for LASER color copies. They make the copies, you pay the lady and then you go home, cut them out and proceed with the project. Photo paper will do nothing but drain your wallet. Its about the ink, not the paper. Laser involves no liquid, its powdered toner. Even if you soak it it will not run!

Try to secure the image by spraying it with Blair spray fix. Watch out for the fumes! Let it com pletely dry before doing anything more to it. Experiment with something small and disposable.
You'll have to use images other than ink jet printed papers.
Elmer's glue for some small things can work a light covering of it then letting it dry completely. My daughter uses a spray that she gets from an art supply store which is used for chalk drawings. She takes the photo outside, spray it lightly and lets it dry, then does what she wants with it.
i have once done decoupage using a printer paper - i just used white glue which turns transparent after it dried and applied some lacquer after the glue dried so it shines a bit not much because of paper -
